“The year is almost over!”
Typically, these words bring excitement and anticipation as the new year quickly approaches. The good, the bad, and the ugly of the year may not be forgotten, but the slate will soon be wiped clean. For many, 2021 will ring in these words like never before, as the entire world is ready for a fresh start that is very different from 2020. Who would’ve thought a pandemic would overtake millions, leave countless without jobs, and dictate political policies? We quickly found out that a seemingly harmless virus from overseas would become a super-spreader sickness in the States. I thought 2020 was supposed to be the start of the “second roaring 20s” that would bring back 1920s-style parties and classic Hollywood themes – I couldn’t have been more wrong!



“Time to make your resolutions!”
Do you make resolutions? More importantly, do you keep them? According to the New York Post, only 8% of people living in the United States actually stick to their resolutions during the year. That would equate to about 26 million people, which seems like a lot until you compare it to the overall population of 328 million. A good question to ask is why it’s so easy to fall out of something you truly want to change - the answer is that you are probably lacking in motivation. Making goals for yourself that are too much to reach right away could deter you from finishing since you can’t see the results you desire early on. I have a feeling 2021 will be the year of “health resolutions” where everyone tries to stay as far away from being sick as they can (I don’t blame them).

“What are you hoping for in the coming year?”
We all would like certain things to happen in the new year – promotions, engagements, vacations, gifts, etc. But if you stop to think about it, what do you truly want? Are you looking for happiness after a bitter 2020? Maybe you’re trying to find a reason to get out of bed every morning because things just haven’t been going well. Although 2021 is still a mystery that is slowly going to unfold over time, in just 365 days it will all soon be over – it will be literal history. Instead of ‘hoping’ for happiness… brighter days… the light at the end of the tunnel… be all those things and change the course of your day. The only person you can control is YOU. Make 2021 into what you want it to be.
